The 2009 Portsmouth Open Shotokan Karate Championships were held on Saturday 21st November at the Mountbattern Centre in Portsmouth. SSKI sent down Karateka representatives at all grade levels who were successful in both Kumite and Kata.
Sensei Teiki won Silver in the 5 Man Team Kumite event and also won Bronze in the 3 man Team Kumite event which also comprised of Sensei Dan and Sensei Douglas from the Hemel Dojo.
Rachael Houlton won Gold in the 9th - 1st Kyu Kata competition which comprised over 15 competitors and also won Gold in the 9th - 1st Kyu Womens Kumite event.
Monika Orban won Bronze in the 9th - 1st Kyu Womans Kumite event.

The SSKI 23rd UK National Championships were held in the Hemel Hempstead Honbu Dojo with 7 London Dojo competitors taking part and all putting in a strong performance.
Sensei Adam won Gold in the Mens Senior Kata event and also Silver in the Mens Senior Kumite event to demonstrate an excellent all round performance and win Adult Competitor of the Day. Sensei Teiki Benveniste won Bronze in the Mens Senior Kumite event in his first Seishinkai competition and proved that the London Dojo is a strong force.
In the Men’s 5–Man Team Kumite Challenge Trophy, Sensei Adam, Sensei Teiki, Sensei Kaan Yargici, Sensei Jonathan Chiodini and Caspar Mahoney were close runners up to the Hemel Dojo with a total score of 3-2 to Hemel. Next time...
In the Ladies Junior Kumite event, Rachael Houlton won Gold and Monika Orban won Silver while in the Ladies Junior Kata event Rachel Houlton won Silver and Monika Orban won Bronze.

The London dojo undertook it's scheduled September Kyu grading with 6 SSKI members participating. The judging panel of Sensei Adam, Kaan, Johnny, Seth & Richard passed all karateka, well done everyone.

Congratulations to both Kaan Yargici and Nicholas Ross-McCall as they successfully completed and passed their 2nd Dan Grading which was held at the Hemel Hempstead dojo. Well done!

The 2009 SHOBU-IPPON KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS were held on Saturday the 7th of May at the Spectrum Leisure Centre in Guildford. London SSKI club members put in some very strong performances, achieving the following medals:

Ladies Novice Kumite
These results, along with those of competitors from fellow SSKI clubs helped the association to maintain its position at the top of the tournament’s medals table (where we have been since the tournament began!). Special mention should be made of Adam Sensei’s first place in the Black-Belt Men’s Kata- an event with more than 50 entrants!
